Lo que no me gusta de Memphis es la pobreza, porque es el corazón rompiendo para ver. Vivo en East Memphis y East Memphis es muy diverso. La diversidad en mi ciudad es buena, porque podemos ver muchas personas diferentes y sus vidas. Podemos tener algo de violencia y robo, pero al menos Memphis es un buen lugar para vivir

 

December 7th

I watched "el Internado " episode 6 . In this episode,  they discover a passage way to a secret tunnel.  They explore the tunnel until they run into a creature, which I think is a gnome, and run off frightened.  They run into a caged room and find the five missing orphans and Alfonso. Carola takes pictures of the bodies for evidence. They come across Mr. Montoya, who orders they to get out. The gnome found them and Mr. Montoya shoots at it. The students run to the entrance, however, the gnome get ahold of Mr. Montoya and kills him. The students figure out that the man wasn't Mr. Montoya.  Mr. Montoya was actually found dead by a lake so this was an imposter who was out to kill them.  The gnome goes to Paula for help and she tells Fermin about it. When they return to her room, the gnome is gone but it left blood behind. Fermin makes Paula promise not to go back into the woods.  Unfortunately, she does go back into the woods with cleaning supplies to heal the gnome's injury. Marcos discovers this information, so he and Carola go into the woods to find her. Some creature finds Paula and tell her to follow it. Meanwhile, Ivan's abusive dad return and is treating him nicely. Ivan is convinced he has changed until Maria and Carola warns him to be careful.  In actuality, his father just wants him to testify in court that he is not abusive. After hearing everyone's opinion,  Ivan decides not to go. Carola and Marcos have feelings for each other and Ivan discovers them kissing in the attic. Heartbroken, Ivan runs away from the school. Maria and Hector have feelings for each other as well so he ended things with Elsa. We later find out the Elsa is pregnant but she doesn't  know who the father is. We also find out that a student was found dead in the woods.

 

 My Spanish tutor gave me a paragraph and had me circle all the verbs. She then made me translate the paragraph and helped me with the words I didn't know. She introduced the preterite tense to me for regular verbs.

November 29th

In episode 5 of Season 1 of "El Internado", it starts by Hector jogging and finding a dead body by the lake. He calls the cops and they assume that dead body belongs to Mr. Montoya. The students start to become worried because Montoya had the only evidence of the dead, missing orphans. They group sneaks off to the lake to see the dead body themselves. They come across the well which has been boarded up so no one go down there. A man in the woods catches them and tells the principal.  While Hector is lecturing about rebellion, he calls the six of them out. He tells them not to rebel unless they have a legitimate reason. He punishes them and put them on cleaning duty.  Carolina is questioning her relationship with Ivan. She stares at his picture a lot, reflecting. Ivan notices and gets upset. Victoria tries to comfort him but he walks off. She looks for him in the bathroom and somehow gets trapped. Gas begins to seep out through the pipes but luckily she gets out safely. Later, they receive a call from Montoya, telling them that he lost the evidence and he is still alive. They don't know how to feel about this information.  They decide to investigate the situation.On the other hand, Evelyn falls into a well and breaks her arm. Amelia is in big trouble because she was responsible for her. Her mother threatens to get the government involved.  Elsa decides that they should fire Amelia, but Hector doesn't think that is necessary.  The school decides to get stricter security. Jacinta burns the letter she sent to her daughter.  She gave her daughter up and now she doesn't want a relationship with her. Maria is making progress with getting close to her son. Hector's and Elsa's relationship is at a low.

I also spent an hour with a tutor. We are working on writing with a specific prompt. She would give me a list of nouns and adjectives and I would have to write a paragraph using those words.

November 14th

  I watched S1 E4 of "el Internado."  Their group decides to go back to the well so they can open the door. They are hesitate to this this because they met with Alfonso's friend,  who is a journalist. He said that he and Alfonso have been investigating the five missing orphans. He informs them that Alfonso is probably dead and that there is no one that they can tell because they won't believe them. Also, the creatures will punish them if they tell anyone.  Despite all of this, they all end up in the well. They discover a film, which showed all five of the orphans dead. The door slams close and locked them in there but the door opens again and they run out and climb out of the well. Marcos stays behind so he can grab the film so that the journalist can use it as evidence. Then, they return back to school.  Meanwhile,  Paula is sad because everyone in her class receives a letter from their parents except her. She comes to the conclusion that her parents are dead or else they would have written her. She talks to Hector and he tells her that her parents are in heaven. He tells her that heaven is a wonderful place far, far away,  across the ocean.  He also reads her the story of Robinson and how he sent a message in a bottle. She decides to send her parents a message in a bottle. During a class field trip, she tosses her bottle in a lake in hopes that it gets to heaven. A creature takes the letter and send Paula a fish in return. Jacinta later discover the creature and it hands her the letter. Jacinta tells the creature it shouldn't get attached to Paula. Fermin finds out information about Hector from his finger print. He finds out the code to Hector's safe and steals a piece of paper. Maria is trying to improve her grammar. Hector notices her determination and he takes on teaching her. He get closer to Maria and Jacinta suspects that he likes her. Elsa is upset because Hector isn't showing her attention.  Elsa has a side affair with Pedro but he wants to break it off because he found someone he is interested in.  Maria catches the kissing and uses this information to her advantage. Maria also finds out that her son thinks his mom committed suicide.

November 7th

43 minutes- I watched a Netflix show in Spanish called La Viuda Negra . This show was about a woman who dominated the cocaine world in New York City. At the beginning we find she is given the death penalty because she committed numerous crimes in order to save her son who had been kidnapped. There were brief flashback of her teen life that led up to that moment in the episode. Lastly all of her  accomplices devised a plan to help her escape her death.

20 minutes- I reviewed the differences in preterite verses and  imperfect tense in a workbook. I refreshed my memory on how the preterite tense is used when the activity in the past is specified, and imperfect tense is used when there is a general statement about the past. For example, if you wanted to say "Yesterday I lost my dog" you would use preterite tense and say "Ayer yo perdí mi perro."

15 minutes- The last activity I did was review my reflexive verbs in the same workbook. It was kind of confusing because this only applied when the subject's actions affected themselves. However, the exercise in the workbook helped me to get the information back in my system. An example would be if I said "At night I take a bathe" it would translate into " En la noche me baño."

I watched season 1 episode 3 of "el Internado." It started off with them looking for Marcos because he disappeared in the closest.  Paula heard their conversation and she's afraid. Marcos appears from the closet and discovered a trap door that leads to the attic. There, they discover a jar of eyes and 5 names carved in a beam. They reveal that the school used to be an orphanage. They find an article and noticed that 5 people when missing from the orphanage and those were the names carved on the beam. Meanwhile,  Paula is convinced that her brother is missing and Evelyn suggest that he went a way to a secret island with her parents. Paula plans to leave but Marcos finds her just as she was about to walk out. Marcos goes on the roof and saves Ivan when he slips and almost falls off the edge. Marcos discovers a sketch book, owned by one of the missing people. It has creepy drawing of weird animals and some hints. The teens decide they want to quit the search except Marcos and Carolina. They use a clue from the sketch book that calls a well, "the door." They go down the well and some throws down the rope and covers the well. Carolina is freaking out and Marcos comforts her. They kiss and that's when Ivan discovers them. He pulls the out the well, but is obviously hurt by what he saw. He goes to the bathroom upset and Maria tries to comfort him. He denies her and is very disrespectful toward her. Carolina gets an email from Alfonso's friend to meet him in the cemetery at 11. She goes and someone captures her. After Marcos stood Paula up she goes to find him on the secret island. Some unknown driver picks her up, claiming he knows where to go. Later, when Marcos goes to bed with, she appears possessed. On the side, Fermi takes a fingerprint on a mug and gives it to a man. Jacinta birthday is coming up and as a present, Hector gives a ticket to see her family. She doesn't have a good relationship with her daughter but they don't know that.  Maria later finds out this information and they set out to find her . They find her at a bus stop alone and tells her that they need her back at school. Hector's fiancée is upset with him because he keeps standing her up

I spent an hour on Duolingo, learning adjective to build my vocabulary.

October 24th

This week I watched S1 E2 of "El Internado." After Alfonso has not return, Carolina and Victoria get suspicious.  They attempt to find him. They notice Marcos with Alfonso's ring on, given to him by his sister. They ask the sister to show them where she found the ring. Marcos is unaware of this and find his sister with Carolina, Victoria, and Ivan. Alfonso appears to be trapped and is knocked unconscious by something. Not only were they unsuccessful in finding Alfonso , but Ivan and Marcos get caught. As punishment, Ivan is expelled. Delivering the news to his father, he slapped Ivan. Hector sees this and decides to let him stay. Meanwhile, Maria is still looking for her son. Jacinta finds out that Maria escaped from a mental asylum and fires her. Maria turns to Fermin for help. Fermin reports to authorities that he found the woman who escaped. On the on the other hand, he does give her the information she wants and we find out that Ivan is her son. She is relieved to know that he will not be getting expelled so they can get to know each other. Jacinta grants Maria with her job back to build her relationship with her son. The episode ends with Marcos disappearing in Alfonso's closet.
       
I also spend an hour on Duolingo. I worked on adverbs, and objects and adjectives  

October 20th
Reflection


I think I grew while in quarter 1,  I was able to create follow up questions  and  form sentences . I  was also  able to maintain a simple conversation  with variety of people. in quarter 2, I want to expand my Spanish speaking and vocabulary  more and be able to create a more " complex" sentence so that when its time to preform a writing task i can be more prepaired

October 21st

  I watched the first episode of "El Internado." The show was 1 hour and 9 minutes long.  It starts off with a woman named Maria escaping a mental hospital. She tries to go into hiding by working as a janitor at La Laguna Negra. We are introduced to some of the students that attend the school. Marco and his sister, Paula, are new to the school. Their parents went missing during a ship accident. He is bullied by Ivan and his friends. They always tease him about his parent's death. There are also 2 girls in this group, Victoria and Carolina.  Paula's friend, Evelyn, convinces her that there are monsters are in woods. Alfonso, a teacher, is investigating the woods while everything is going on. He warns tge girls that the school is dangerous and that they should leave. We also meet the principal, Hector, and his girlfriend, Elsa. Hector convinces Paula that there are not monsters in the woods. Instead, there are fairies. Pauly sneaks out through the gate to make a wish to the fairies. They have a search party looking for her and eventually finds her. She tells them that a fairy saved her from a bad man who grabbed her leg. They try to find the man but he is not there when they return. We also discover that Maria is looking for her son she lost when she was 13. She believes he attends the school and would like to get to know him. 

  I spent 30 minutes doing Duolingo .I had to take a test so they could get an idea of where I am now. I am currently on Level 10 I took a test that told me I was 40% fluent in spanish. I can tell that I need to work on my listening skills because those where the questions I missed frequently .

The lyrics to the songs and its beats add to the political and social message the song is trying to send. As a result, it has the effect of grabbing people’s attention.  the song describes what makes Latin America and what type of people it consists of. .The song also describes a continent full of struggles, but that still has hopes.  As a matter of fact, this song mentions the colonization of America. For example, the music video of the song shows a diverse faces and people. These faces represent a mix of indigenous, European, and African people.

Today I did 2 duolingos

• Time and Adjectives

In the date and time category it was a section that said "weakest words"

they were horas, madrugada , ayer, calendario, noches, veces, hasta, desde, and invierno. To the strengthen my words I had to listen to the audio and type in the word that I hear  in Spanish and translate it in English an example would be en un rato comemos ( in a while we will eat ) or they will give me a phrase in English  and I would have to choose the meaning in Spanish example sometimes I go sometimes I do not ( a veces voy a veces no)

in the size section I learned to put phrases from Spanish to English 

• examples: mi tamano es grande ( my size is big

household section I now know that su silla  means in English "her chair"

 The other thing I did was listening to Spanish music from he movie Fast and Furious 5 called "danza kuduro" - don omar ft. lucenzo   

Danza Kuduro” means “Kuduro Dance” in English. Kuduro is a type of music that originated in Angola and is also very popular in Portugal. 

Another son I listened to was called" Que Bonita Es La Vida"

there was one part of the song I understood when it said

Spanish reading about "nightmates "

 In this passage i read that A nightmare is a bad dream, can make you feel fear, anxiety or anger, but they are not real and can not hurt you (of couse we already knew that ).some people have the same dream replayed over and over again . While others have a nightmare with a different Content but the message is still the same. Some people go through different stages of sleep, including REM (rapid eye movement) during this phase of sleep, your eyes move from side to side while the eyelids are closed. Stressful situations that purr during the day can turn dreams in to nightmares .that may be a way to release daily stress . That's just a little something I read about nightmares

Today I did 30 mins of duolingo it provides written lessons and  dictation with speaking practice for more advanced users 

• Today I learned simple words and phrases on "basic 1" for example: 

El Niño means boy
El hombre means man
La Niña means girl

Those are just simple words and there meaning examples small phrases would be:

Tú bebes means you drink
Ella come in manzana means she eats an apple
La Niña bebes leche means the girl drinks milk

• Another course I touched on was "animals " there Spanish works and there meaning 

Examples would be : Los pajaros -birds

 el oso- the bear 

El cangrejo- the crab 

El animal- the animal 

  

A short sentence I had to put was :

The last activity



• I watched a Spanish speaking moves call " the mystery of happiness"

its about a guy and a and a girl named Santiago and Eugenio. they are more than friends, they are life long business partners. They can understand each other without words, you can basically say that they were close. One day Eugenio disappears without leaving any clues behind. Santiago immediately notices his absence, but only realizes what have happened when Eugenio's wife, Laura, lost and hopeless assures him that Eugenio has left. Santiago and Laura begin a journey to find him and end up discovering that they prefer to stay together in this quest rather than finding out where he is. 'The Mystery of Happiness' is a film about love, it pushes boundaries, it explores the idea of loyalty and it definitely puts dreams over long lost promises.
